Evanston (RLTO) Conditions: How Tenants Can Request Repairs
Under the Evanston RLTO, the landlord must maintain the premises in compliance with all applicable codes of the city and shall promptly make any and all repairs to fulfill this obligation.
A tenant can report housing code violations to the city of Evanston by calling 311 or emailing propertymaintenance@cityofevanston.org and requesting a property inspection
What can I do if the landlord is in violation of the RLTO?
- Self-help for minor defects (up to $500.00 or 1/2 month's rent)
- Withhold rent
- Terminate the lease
