Mount Prospect Security Deposit - Landlord Must Give a Receipt Upon Request

If a tenant lives in Mount Prospect and the Mount Prospect Residential Landlord and Tenant Regulations apply, the landlord needs to follow certain rules when the tenant pays a security deposit. 

Does the landlord need to give a receipt?

A tenant may request a receipt for the security deposit. Then, the landlord must provide a written receipt for the security deposit. 

A landlord does not need to give a receipt for the security deposit when the tenant did not ask for it. 

What happens if the landlord did not give a receipt?

The Mount Prospect Regulations do not punish a landlord for failing to give a receipt.
