Understanding Tenant Rights: Options for Repairs Outside the Mount Prospect Regulations

If a tenant has conditions issues and the landlord fails to make repairs, the Mount Prospect Landlord and Tenant Regulations give two options: terminate the lease or withhold rent.

Sometimes, the Regulations don't fit a tenant's situation. What other non-legal options are available?

  1. Report the building violation(s) to the local Department of Buildings.
  2. Contact local elected officials.
  3. Seek the assistance of a community organization or the news media to complain about a code violation or illegal landlord practice.
