Evanston RLTO: What is Notice?

The Evanston Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance requires landlords and tenants to give notice. Notice to enter the unit. Notice to demand repairs. Notice to throw away abandoned property. But what is notice?

Notice is when:

  • A person has actual knowledge of something;
  • A person has received notice of something; or
  • A person takes reasonable steps to inform the other and the other person should know about about something. It does not matter whether the recipient actually comes to know about it.

Section 5-3-2(C) of the Evanston RLTO.
